Sad news, R.I.P. Nuri Karademirli

Sorry to share the sad news out of Berlin, DE yesterday, that Udi Nuri Karademirli passed away.

This page only gives a short biography in English:
http://www.oud.eclipse.co.uk/karademirli.html

Nuri was a VERY exceptional ud player. And the few lessons I took with him, he showed amazing skills on tanbur as well. If you haven't heard him, please look up some videos of him on Youtube.

This is terrible news indeed. I only discovered his wonderful oud playing recently thanks to YouTube, and was looking forward to hearing much more in future.

Adam, do you know if he released any recordings, as I haven't managed to find any so far?

David

P.S. Most or all of NK's videos are available via the link above.

Let's hope something will be released posthumously, as he deserves to be better known.

Nuri hoca is a really big loss for the turkish music scene in germany and europe in general.. He was as said an anazing player with skills that are among critics...he could play a variety of styles and of course all the instruments (from oud to tanbur, from saz to kanun).. But the most important from all is that he was a big Master and Teacher for many many years. Responsible for the conservatory for turkish music in Berlin, professor in the University of arts, he wanted to make an academy for World music in Berlin but it was not meant...
Oud community is poorer as there are not so many real Hoca out there...

N. Rondelis
