New instrument (Lavta)

So as of this morning, my Lavta has been picked up in Izmir, Turkey and is on the way to it's new home in North Carolina, USA courtesy of the Turkish Post... the instrument is made by Yissi. I purchesed it on Ebay from nazilli.

Here are some pics....

If anybody could link in some online resources for the instrument I'd really appreciate it.

Hey Spyros, my work sometimes takes me to Philly... perhaps on my next trip up there (sometime this fall) I could engage you for a lesson.... I've always admired your playing.

It seems like I should be able to play a lot of "oud" songs on the lavta (since the tuning is similar) but might have to transpose up a little for some songs... Mostly, I wanted something that would let me easily play some Turkish stuff that requires me to go high on the neck of my oud (where I'm just not as comfortable) Also, I would like to learn some renaissance music on the instrument as well.

:( As of this morning, the Lavta is somewhere between Istanbul and the US... Probably sitting in customs.... This is the first time I've ever had to wait more than 2 weeks for overseas shipping :(
