Hi Scott,

Low action for easy playability, a flush neck/body joint (actually good craftsmanship in general), a good bracing job on the inside of the face (probably most important).

Mike

Scott, I bought a cheap Egyptian made oud on e-bay for fun to see if it’s a good instrument for a beginner. The workmanship is very good and the tone descent for the price. You can’t get a better oud for so little money.

Nice oud Ronny. Can we see other pics of this oud and maybe some more information about it? Like who the maker is, types of wood, how you bought it and from who.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike and Scott, here are couple of more pictures. The oud is made of walnut and equipped with a so-called floating bridge. The tone is good with some buzzing but not a big deal when it’s easy to adjust. The bridge works fine and the top f´ penetrates well and produce the typical sound that only an oud with floating bridge produces. The string length is the classical one so it has a powerful mellow bas and it’s then a better choice than pure short stringed Bashir oud for a player that have problems to appreciate the real Bashir oud.
Rafaat was the guy I bought it from. The oud comes with both soft bag and hard case and also extra pegs, strings and a horn plectrum. Delivery was excellent from Egypt to Sweden.
