Horn risha
I have been given a horn risha.... but it is very different to the Pyramid I have, it it completely hard, no flexibility at all! How does one play
with this? Is it just practise?

you can make it thinner weather with a knife or sandpaper.
Putting it into oil will help it does not dry out, prvending to brake.

Playing with a hard risha requires a different technique than a soft risha. Practice!

Yes, you can play with a hard rishi, but it does of course require a different way. Simon Shaheen uses fairly thick rishas. His way is to hold the
rishi really short and minimize extra movement with the hand. So he gets a very strong attack, and able to play many notes in a short amount of time.
Not everyone has that level of technique.. which is even hard to practice in order to get there.
I make horn rishis for people who have all kinds of requests. I offer a standard flexable horn rishi that 75% of people are happy with, others will
ask for specific thicknesses and shapes. If its too thick you can thin it out yourself. You can use a cabinet scraper, but you'll need a burnisher,
file and a vice to be able to sharpen it. that will last you a lifetime, or even a small piece of glass that is cut, and you can scrape away layers of
thickness until its just right for you.

Hello! I understand your problem because I've passed through it. Horn rishas may be of very different thickness anyway. I use quite thin horn rishas
bought through the Matthias Wagner website: They are just perfect for those used to plastic rishas who want to skyp to horn ones straight away. I

I actually just started using a horn risha made by John, and I'm not exaggerating when I say I will never play with plastic risha again. The shape and
carving was exquisite for such material. It totally brought out all the good sounds on the oud.

couple weeks ago i received rishas from John VERGARA , and i have to say the same thing that majnuunNavid said . I choose one very thick and i think
it really changes the sound of my oud . Thank you John.
