Happy and Lighthearted Oud tunes

Hi everyone,

I gravitate towards the serious, meditative, and demonic minor-ish tunes.

I want to start listening to some lighthearted tunes, whether they be Arabic, or Turkish.

Anyone have any recommendations? I know that pieces in Ajam, jiharkah, mahur, are good starters. But I am also interested in pieces that are considered "happy" or "lighthearted" which are in different maqams as well. So please anything is welcome. And please no pop suggestions, just Oud and traditional. I have no problem finding lighthearted pop songs.

Thanks!

This is my area of interest as well [sorry to hijack your thread]! Actually, I might make a new topic for this not to detract from this one. As for happy ones, not too sure, I'm afraid. Mahur does seem to be especially bouncy and happy though.

any song in rast....

i can only speak to armenian and turkish music but:

tin tin (tini mini hanim)
the "karsilama" from richard hagopian's kef time album (actual name is katine or rast karsilama)
kale kale (again richard hagopian)
halime (yeni halime) (chick ganimian live at cape cod)
darildin mi cicim bana (hariklaki)
ipek siyah mantolu
the "zeybek" from richard hagopian's "kef time detroit" (actual title izmirin kavaklari) (although the lyrics are not so lighthearted!!!!!)
aman arap kizi
galatada todoraki
dokumaci kiz
raki icer gezerim (marko melkon version)
mavilim (kanuni garbis)
sulukule (richard hagopian)
kanarini mou glyko (sira sira siniler)

most of the above songs are from richard hagopian's kef time series (kef time, k.t. detroit, k.t. hartford), or the armenians on 8th avenue and "marko melkon" albums

Here is a classic piece by Sayyed Dariwsh called "Tal3et ya Ma7la Nourha" which is in Ajam.
This is Marcel Khalife's recording of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp_fZYGiRDc
And another version by Fairouz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9jgPsZyvhU

Of course theres another famous piece in Ajam by Sayyed Darwish, "Zourouni"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaFFOxUjnMI

Lets us not forget "Wihyaat 'Inayya & 'Al Rosana" performed by Saba7 Fakrhi in a great waslaat jiharkah
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJjgvKJKnLE

This is a nice song by Marcel Khalife in Ajam, "Streets of Beirut" although it's in Ajam, he manages to capture a profound sad sound, and invokes nostalgia. The lyrics are also actually sad, dealing with the destruction of Beirut during the civil war. This is piece is fun to play, very melodic and oudistic.

On another note, on the subject of how major can be sad and invoke nostalgia, a particular piece always comes to mind. Bach's lute suite in E-flat major, the prelude (1st movement) performed here on baroque lute.

I dont have access to youtube right now but I can think of some off the top of my head.

Fairuz has plenty of "happy" songs. Like el bosta, nassam 3alyna el hawa.

Also a personal favorite of mine is singer Melhem Barakat - ''shebbak habibi''.
