Here are three options.

1) when you go to http://www.music-strings.de which is the site of Mathias W, click on the top of the page for the English language option. There are apparent anomalies and what seem to be contradictions in the English language version of the site, especially when checking out, but everything actually works as it should. I have shopped there successfully with no identity theft.

2) If you are in the USA shipping may be less at Oudstrings.com. Have a look and see if this is so. And you get the benefit of proprietor Brian Prunka's string knowledge and oud knowledge. I certainly have.

3) shop at Stringsbymail.com. It's in Michigan and there is one price for shipping no matter how many strings you buy. They carry Pyramid Lute Strings. Go to the Lute section and select the gauges you want and how many of each. During Thanksgiving week they have a sale and their prices are even lower.
They do not carry many oud string sets but they do have Pyramid lute strings for sale as singles. They are nice honest people but they know nothing about oud. For instance they offer a set of steel strings for oud. Buyer Beware! For oud expertise options 1 and 2 are better. But since you know the gauges you want you may find lower prices at option 3.
But except for when there is a sale I calculate $56. 88 before shipping and possible taxes and duties. That's not very different from $60.
The price is set by all these merchants according to the price they have to pay for the strings and their overhead costs to operate a business.

If you know of 12 Pyramid strings of these gauges for $50 please tell us where, and why not shop *there*?

I have ordered Pyramid strings directly from their factory in Germany for over 40 years now without problem.

The contact in sales is Sabine Holz at

s.holz@pyramid-saiten.de

Their string catalogues can be downloaded from the Pyramid website at

http://www.pyramid-strings.de

Send Sabine a list of the strings that you want and you will receive a proforma invoice for the total cost including shipping and handling. You must then first pay by mailing an international money order made out to one of the German banks specified by Pyramid (details in their catalogues) together with the invoice and they will send you the strings.

I second jdowning's suggestion to get in touch with Pyramid directly and need to take that advice myself. For the past two orders I've made at at a strings website based in the US (I won't mention the name, it's no one here BTW) I've had backorders twice meaning they needed restock from Pyramid. So why not go directly?

Sabina is great and answers questions when available.

I'm looking at the downloaded catalogue (this one:
http://pyramid-saiten.de/_assets/_pdf/DE_BR_Katalog-2013-03-21.pdf)

and can't make a lot of sense of it. I'm looking at lute strings and oud strings and can't find prices for individual strings of the gauges I would want or the gauges that Stingerz wants to buy. Only for sets. Am I looking at the wrong catalogue?
thanks for any clarification you can provide!

Hello,
the payment sytem I'm working with is telecash, one of the biggest in Germany. It is secure.
And if it is only the language, choose banc transfer and then I will let you know how to pay by PayPal.

The string diameters you are looking for are on stock and can be send immediately.

Best regards
Matthias

Jody Stecher - if you or anyone else wants clarification and details about the standard strings or string sets that Pyramid can provide don't ask me just ask the helpful staff of Pyramid!

Pyramid work in German, French and English and publish their catalogues in those languages. You may indeed be looking at the 'wrong' catalogue. The tri-lingual catalogue I have in front of me for lute and other instrument strings gives the prices of all individual strings and sets that they stock as standard.
They can make strings to special order if required - but you will, of course, have to consult with them directly to determine what can be done and the cost.
All pretty straightforward really. They are a good company to deal with.

http://pyramid-saiten.de/_assets/_pdf/EN_BR_Katalog-2013-03-21.pdf

http://pyramid-saiten.de/_assets/_pdf/DE_EN_FR_Historical-2013.pdf

From this last catalogue you will find listed the strings (not sets of strings) in question (together with prices in Euros) i.e.

0.575 mm rectified nylon
0.675 mm rectified nylon
1007 wound
1013 wound
1116 wound
1032 wound

Hoping that this helps.

The comparison between PVF (fluoro carbon) and nylon strings and user experience has been a regular topic of discussion on this forum over the past 9 years or so.
If you do an all forum search for 'PVF strings' you will likely find the answers to your question (and more!).
