preparing a oud travel to Tunis

Hi all,

i'll be going to Tunis in 2 weeks for 2 or 3 days and will be looking for :

- places/luthiers to buy good quality ouds
- eventually teachers to contact for some teaching hours

any advise / adresses or feedback from folks who recently came back with ouds from Tunisia ?

thank you for your replies :D
regards

Saleh

Achref Chargui seems like a good guy to start with, but he might be touring by the time you get there

Hi !

thanks for the information...yes I read this thread but since it was a little bit old I wanted to have an update ...:0)

for what it's worth here is some information (if anyone plans a trip to Tunisia in a near future) : I had contact with M Jendoubi (luthier) who was kind enough to give me his phone and told me I could visit him when I wanted (i'll keep an update of the visit when I come back from Tunis) -- he also gave me the name of Muhamed Hassan iraki oud teacher who lives in Tunisia. I'd sent a message through facebook to Abdelhamid Haddad (another famous Tunisian luthier) but got no answer. As for the more general shops : there seems to be a shop rue de Marseille in the center of Tunis.

I'll let you know how all of this goes.

regards
Saleh
