Sam,

I love Sunbati playing oud and singing. He can express what seems like a whole takht on that oud.

I came across this arabic website called Classical Music Archives. (http://www.sawari.com) For those who aren't fluent in reading arabic, you can hover over links and see what they are by looking at the status bar at the bottom of Explorer. If it's not there, click View, and select Status Bar from the drop down menu. The Sunbati link is on the right column. There are a couple more there, like this one:

Riad El Sunbati - Amshy elayk

Hey Jameel. I have so much respect for Sunbati as a musician, and about a year ago, I did a very detailed search through the internet to find what I could for him. This was one of the files. Along with it were Awedt Eyni and el-Atlal, as well as him playing with the orchestra in a song called Al-Fajr. Robaiyat Khayyam was also there as well. I'd be happy to provide you all with these files, as long as I have an idea of which you want. They are of very low quality, but I can still hear the beauty of his playing (the quality is comparable to the file I have already posted).

I hope all is well with you, Jameel. How's the new oud coming along? I check for updates on that post in hopes of seeing more progress. Please, keep us updated.

TP21,

I have Awedt Eyni and AL Atlal on CD. They are both nice. I also have Roubayat (my personal favorite--mainly because of the theme--kind of like the Parable of the Prodigal Son) on CD. These are available from maqam.com. Let me know if you want the mp3's.

The oud project is going, but slowly. Saturdays are about the only time I get. Keep checking that thread. Thanks for your support, it's motivating.:buttrock:

Jameel, I would love to have the mp3's. The recording I have of it is only 8 kbps, which is... 1/16th the normal quality. I hope it's not too much trouble for you.

As for your project... weekends definitely are usually the only times any of us get any spare time to do anything, really. I'm sure the fact that you're being so meticulous about things will yield great results, which I look forward to seeing (and hearing!).

All the best,
TP21
