Tayyar oud for sale.

Hi folks.
I have decided to part with one of my ouds.
It is a Tayyar made Iraqi oud. Bachir style with a single hole. It's a beautiful oud and has not been seeing any playing lately since I'm not finding any time to play anymore.
I have put pictures of it in a earlier posting discussing Tayyar ouds. So, rather repost pictures I'm just going to point you to the link here so you can look at the photos.

http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=1095

If you need more pics or more detail, email me at walidk@verizon.net.

I have paid around $1600 new for it (hagling included!). I'm looking for something around $1200. I can go a bit lower but not too much. Let me know your offer.

Thanks.

I'll try in the next couple of days (weekend?).
I had it de-tuned for a while (to relax the strings tension while not being played).
So I have to tune it back. Strings may have to take a couple of days to stay properly tuned.
I'll work on it !
thanks.

Some Sound files.

Folks,
I finally got around to actually re-string the oud, tune it, make some noise with it and actually record something.

First off, I apologize for the quality of playing, I'm not practicing much lately (with two small kids around the house it's very tough).
Also when I recorded, the oud was not 100% in tune, strings needed a couple of more days to settle. But I wanted to record something as fast as I could because I promised to post sound files (I'm a bit late I guess).

I used my computer and a cheap computer microphone ($5 mic) to record the sound. Also I exported the sound files using 64K MP3 so quality is a little less but it should give you an idea of the sound of the oud. There are no special effects used of any kind in the sound recordings.

I tried to hit some high notes on the neck at the end of the recording in the "first" file to show you ease of playing on this oud. Any off notes are because of my fingers and not the oud.

In the second recording "LefHand" I just wanted to show you how sensitive this oud is. So I played using ONLY my left hand hammering on the fingerboard (i.e. NO PLUCKING or risha whatsoever). Don't laugh, I'm no Nassir Shamma!! but just to show how the wood is resonant and sensitive. See next post please.

Please let me know if you experience problems downloading these files.

Thanks,

Walid.

Thanks you!
I apreciate your feedback..and I like to hear other people's opinion.
P.S. you don't have to be interested in buying the oud to let me know your impressions of the sound.

Thanks.
Walid.

Thanks Monawar,
It really is a very nice sounding oud (studio quality). The pictures do not render justice to the oud. I took the pictures with my old video camera (that has low pixel count) at the time just for the discussion on the neck joint. The construction and craftsmanship (I believe) is like no other that I've seen.

The only reason I'm selling it, is because I have a couple of other cheaper ouds and I'm not playing much these days anyway. As I mentioned before I haven't touched it in months. I just hate to see it sitting doing nothing with its strings loosened up.

Thanks for the nice comments.

Walid.

Walidk--Very nice sounding and looking oud. I especially enjoy the cut-away part of it. A few questions: Where are you located? I live in California and would want to know what kind of prices I would be looking at in terms of proper, safe shipping. Also, do you have any knowledge on the provenance of this oud (year made, how many owners before you, etc.)
Thanks so much,
Steve

Steve,

Sorry it took a while to respond. I hadn't checked in a while..

I'm in NJ.

Thanks for the nice comments about the oud. By the way the cut-away neck takes a LOT more work and craftsmanship than a regular neck.

I'm really not sure how much it costs to ship a oud. Maybe somebody on the forum can help out in answering this question. I know a lot of people on this forum have sold and shipped ouds before.
However, in any case, if it's anything over $100, I'll share the cost of shipping with you. No biggy.
As far as the oud itself. I am the original owner of it. It has been with me since new. I bought it from Montreal directly from the maker. I think around 2000-2001 not sure (I'm away from home now but if you want I can get year right off the oud label along with the serial number).

Let me know if you have more questions or need more pics, etc.

You can email me at walidk@verizon.net. You can also leave me your phone number (if you like) and I can call you.

Thanks.

Walid.

Walidk,

I am very interested in your oud. I cannot purchase it until I receive my tax refund but will contact you when that arrives (hopefully shortly) and will see if you still have the oud for sale at that time. Will be in contact.
Thanks,
Steve

Price Lowered..

Hi,
I have made the following offer to one of the members. So I can make the same offer to everybody here, if anyone is interested.
I have offered the oud for $1100. I will be also throwing in for free a nice hard case for this oud, also made by Tayyar brothers themselves (cost me $200).

If anybody is interested, you can email me at walidk@verizon.net.

Thanks.

Thanks Samir for your encouragement.
It's in the process of getting sold actually.
I have received a reasonable offer from a member of this forum and I accepted it. It is really a great oud (probably one of a kind).
It has not seen much playing in the last year or so, because of lack of time on my part.
I hate to see it go, but not as much as I hate to see it sitting around.

Thanks.
