You're Welcome! Yeah Hazem Shaheen has a style that I really like especially in the arabic maqams.

That's a great video! I've seen it before. You really see his technical skills in that one.

This is also a great piece of music of his that I just came across:

@Wally1212 can you please explain in that first clip, not knowing Arabic makes it hard.

What is the old man's role, is he the teacher, and what is he saying? How much of the playing is improvised Taqsim, and how much is known or recently composed material? Then what are they singing, what music, what words?

Thanks

The old man and the lady are hosts of the show. He isn't a teacher. The taasim lasts till the 1:50 mark and then he breaks into song. However, if you pay attention closely to the video, the taqsima was edited down. It was longer. The song he's singing would be a bit hard to translate but it's style is Egyptian Folkish is how I guess you could describe it. He even uses a different accent (how people in rural Egypt would be speaking) when singing.

Also, during the taqsima the old guy is basically complementing Hazem on his playing.

Managed to find another bayyati taqseem of Hazem. His style is truly unique.
