Hello Friends !
I m am wondering about international shipping of an acustic instrument (like an oud), since i have no experiance and im very sceptic i would love to
hear from anyone who has experiance in this matter.
How did you send your ouds, and did it arrive in one pieace ??

If the instrument is properly packed there is little risk of damage. If it is not properly packed damage is likely or damage is guaranteed. An
instrument in a case within a box is best but I have shipped and received ouds and other instruments with no case and there was no damage. The
"secret" is that no part of the instrument can touch the inner walls of the shipping box. Pack as it you would pack a mirror. Wadded up newspaper is
as good a shock absorber as anything. The item must be suspended in packing material and it must be secure and not move around. If the instrument is
in a case, the instrument must be secure and not move around within the case. If it moves damage is almost certain.
You had specified *acoustic* and *international*. All of the above applies to acoustic and electric, to international and domestic. Pack it wrong and
the oud will break. Pack it right and it probably won't. There can be accidents. There can be malicious airport workers. I have seen them throw
guitars. One time I saw a worker in New Zealand lift a guitar above his head and throw it violently to the ground. It was my guitar. It survived.

Shipping is always a risk, a big risk. There are several points the have to be taken care of:
case:
thisis the most importent point. I would never ship any instrument without a case.
And if a case is available, not any case guarantees a good protection. In the near future I will be able to offer carbon cases for the aoud. I will
present them soon in a separte thread.
And if the instrument is in a case, that should be packed additionally in a stable carton box with soft pads inbetween, foam will be good.
carrier:
I one shipped a chitarrone to Norway. This was done by a special carrier, who is experienced in shipping musical instruments. A very imortand
point.
climate:
another high important point. If it is transported by airplane in the standard room there, it exists the risk of cracks due to the dry climate there.
So the instrument must be protected against that.

I would say you must call several in your country. I had a german one.
