What aspects of the Oud world could be shown on a map?

Are there any aspects of the Oud world, be it instrument design or playing techniques, that could be mapped out? I've heard somewhere that Rast 3rd note varies by region, could there be a map of that? What about rosettes, pick guards, body shape, size, tuning, etc? With all the regional variation could anything about the oud be displayed spatially and be somewhat accurate? I'm very interested in the geography of this music so any help is appreciated!

Sources of wood and other materials
Teacher-pupil lineages and player migrations
Travels of field recording pioneers
Market zones of early recording companies and areas reached by early radio broadcasts
Original and current locations of early representations of the oud
Isoglosses for terminology
