Oud Damaged on Jetblue - Need Help

Hi Everyone,

Flying from New York City to Los Angeles yesterday for a concert (which is 24 hours away now), I carried on my oud. Some staff decided to force more bags into the overhead compartment and they dislodged the pegbox from the neck about one inch up.

Any help as soon as possible is much appreciated! Currently in Los Angeles.

the pegbox goes back into place and it plays okay, but what is the long term fix? Is it okay as is? Or does it need to be glued back into place?

It is maybe hard to show in the photos, but it is essentially those lines where the pegbox meets the neck.

Viken Najarian in Anaheim would be your best bet, if he is available to do the repair at short notice. Your oud would be in excellent hands.

Viken Najarian is ideal, however, I think that any competent guitar or violin luthier can fix this.

TAKE the strings OFF!! its not going to stay in place long!

yes VIKEN I am sure can help. But best thing would be to find a spare oud because its not going to be ready and I am sure you don't want it flying off mid concert.

Thank you everyone for the advice! Strings have been totally loosened and all pressure is off the neck.

Fingers crossed this gets fixed. Who would think that even an oud as a carry on is in danger :(

Update! Vicken jan kindly agreed to glue and fix my oud within 24 hours.

Truly kind of him, going above and beyond during his busy schedule.

Thanks to everyone who put me in touch with him! I have a deep appreciation for this forum and all its members.
