string set for High F tuning on turkish oud

Hi,
I'd like to tune a new turkish oud (58,5cm) in high F tuning.
I'd like a tension beetwen 3,5 kg and 4,5 kg and I'd like to try PVF for treble strings. Any recommandations with Pyramid or Kurschner ?
best.

Hello,

have a look into my shop. There I offer several custom sets for that scale and tuning. If you enter "So_f_585_M_" in the search field, you will find them.
The sets are calculated with tension of 3.6 - 3.9 Kg. The 4.5 Kg tension you mention will be too high.
For more info about my set system see here:

Best regards
Matthias

Thanks for your reply.
The string set that uses Mr. Turunz on his oud makes me think that high tension is commonly used for treble, for example (found on this forum) high C is around 4,6kg ... I'm wondering what should be the tension a high F string ?

NB : here is the arabic string set used by Mr. turunz :
"c, g, d, A, F, C tuning: PVF 0,59/ PVF 0,68/ 1012/ 1018/ 1025/ 1240"

Hello,

I am wondering about that jumping tensions:

c --- PVF 0,59 --- 44 N
g --- PVF 0,68 --- 33
d --- PY 1012 --- 41,5
A --- PY 1018 --- 36,5
F --- PY 1025 --- 33
C --- PY 1240 --- 39,5

Anybody here who has an explanation for that. I do not see any sense.

Beside this, if you like to get this set, you can order the single strings through the shop. It must not be a set. All strings are available single and can be shipped with in 1 - 3 days.

Best regards
MAtthias

Hi,
jumping tensions make sense to me because string materials thickness is a determinant factor in acoustic performance.
The tension of a string set is just an average.
For example very thin nylon strings don't give good results, that why you should prefer a tension slightly higher compared to your average tension (for example high F in arabic tuning).
Also very thick nylon doesn't give good results, that why you should prefer low tension for that string (for example middle G in arabic tuning).
The tuning I use at present for my syrian 61,5cm oud has tensions that fluctuate from 2,7kg to 3,4kg ... It took me hours to find that tuning I am comfortable with ... but it's very subjective !
