soundboard question

Hi Friends,

I recently purchased this oud. I noticed some wax-like impressions on the soundboard. Can anybody advise me what is is from and what to do about it?

Thanks in advance

The Luthier I brought it from said it was the effect of the "cold" and it will "fade away on its own ".
Can anybody comment on this please?

I tried using a dry cloth and wiping it gently but it didn't do much.

nope, nope, nope... it will not fade away on its own. just a bad varnish job which shows the strokes.

If it is wax, like carnauba wax, it would fade away if you use a cloth to rub it quite fast so that it heats up. Try that and see but if it doesn't go away, its not wax. don't press hard, just go fast with a light to medium touch.

Thank you very much Samir,

Is this something that can be fixed by a Luthier without much harm to the oud?
