Beginner help with Egyptian oud, please!

Hi, all. I have an oud from Mahmoud Mostafa. It came with 12 strings in 6 courses: 3 wound and 3 plain nylon. Scale length is 595mm. Wondering how you would recommend it should be tuned and what strings to use?

Hi Keefaz,
welcome to the forums:wavey:

As it is a egyptian oud you should use the standard arabic tuning.
From low to high:
CC
FF
AA
dd
gg
cc

The strings should be for arabic tuning. The most brands offer loow/middle and high tension strings, wich one to prefer is a matter of taste.

I think Pyramid strings are a very good choice in every price-range.
For example this ones:https://www.stringsbymail.com/pyramid-arabic-oud-orange-label-11-string-set-silver-plated-wound-3rd-17742.html

NOTE: The stringsets usually contain 11 strings, because very few players use 2 strings for the low C (bam).

Happy ouding,

Marcus
