Double Stops on Single Course

Hey guys. As a beginner, I do a lot of messing around the oud instead of actually practicing like I'm supposed to. While messing around today, I accidentally got my fingernail caught between one of the courses, leading to two notes being played at once. The top string was left open, while the bottom was stopped by my finger, so I could play e.g. D and Gb on the same course to make a nice harmony. I've decided to not upload a video for your ears' sake, but I'm pretty sure you all get the idea, anyway. I feel like with enough practice I could make this a consistent "technique", but my question is, is there even a use for this sort of thing on the oud?
