Sanding

Please stop sanding to remove Afinish. You will remove some of the wood underneath as well and eventually be left with nothing. I am always trying to repair old ouds that are so thin they are practically destroyed. Lately one I have has the back the thickness of a pot card. This makes them very weak and susceptable to cracks and separation. Now try to glue two curved post cards together.

To remove a finish, start with alcohol applied with 0000 steel wool. This will remove shellac. If that doesn't work try acetone for varnishes. At last resort use a stripper.

DO NOT SAND, PLEASE!

Thanks for the tip. I’ll make sure to not sand it down instead use the steel wool first.
