Oh I just noticed that it looks like a flat back. Is it?

sure

yes it is flatted, this way it will be easy to hold by a child.thus the begginer will sit for a long time practising comfortably..
pay attention that the fingerboard is divided to notes distances.....

Yes I saw that, I did a simillar thing to my cheap khaliffeh replica :D, but instead of lines I marked dots using pearl white nail polish where only the player can see them. ;)

The flat back is not a bad idea for a child.

different ages and different sizes but also for different reasons. i don't know why it should be but for almost a year now i've been experiencing pains in my left hand whenever i play my large, egyptian-made oud. i tried easing up on the pressure - which helps some - but the pains are still there.

thing is, with the smaller, turkish made oud - bought off ebay for €40 or so - i don't experience these pains; nor do i have them when playing a charango. originally i thought that frets may have been of some help but now i think it's simply size.

they aren't serious pains and i'm not taking anything for them - it's just that a half-hour's play on the larger oud isn't as comfortable as the same on the smaller oud.

they say "once the man and twice the child" and this may be testimony to that.

- bill

by the way, that's a lovely looking oud, samir - your kids are fortunate.

ok

ok
you are right small size is better,Nahhat made the bowl as 50.5 cm long 36cm wide.not more..
some makers made larger ones to get higher sound,so they made a big mistake to this instrument..
regards
samir

Hi Samir,

The rings around the sound holes, are they solid all the way through or just an inlay? Can you give us details on how you do that?
