Broken Oud Rosette

Hello All,

I have a 2012 Kamil Mowais oud which was accidentally dropped and part of the rosette is now broken. (Pic attached).

My question is can I use SuperGlue to glue the pieces back together or does it need professional repair by disassembly? What are the possible solutions?

Thank you all in advance.
Mohamed

Well the good news is that you only broke the rosette! :)

I am not an expert but here is what I think:

Gluing it in-place might work if you are careful, but you should not glue the rosette to the sound board with superglue. Use superglue to glue the rosette back together (rosette to rosette pieces), and hide glue to glue any rosette part to the soundboard.

The correct way would be to remove the whole rosette (with a hot knife) from the sound board, repair the rosette, then re-glue it back whole onto the soundboard.

Perhaps someone with more experience can comment.

Cheers,

Ali-
