1936 7 Course oud
I just thought I would share pictures of an incredibly cool oud that I have come across. Built in 1936 by Artin Atikyan (yes, the same guy that built
that destroyed oud I posted in another link). 7 courses. 6 double strings, and a single bass. Completely original. I didn't know that 7 course
ouds were built at that time. Has anybody heard of another built any earlier than this one? And, most cool of all, it bears 3 labels inside, one is
Atikians standard label, and two more stating that it was built for Avedis Agacyan as a gift for Udi Nevres Bey. Agacyan became a fairly popular
nightclub ud performer in Istanbul in the 1950s (I have been told), and Nevres Bey was, well, Nevres Bey.

Jonathan,
Congratulations on the oud, it is really beautiful. I'm glad you've been able to add such a unique instrument to your collection.
Please let us hear it if you feel comfortable sharing the sound with us.
Take care,
