Need help finding strings...

Hi guys. I am struggling to find strings for my floating bridge Oud. I am new to Ouds. From the nut to where I tie the string on the bridge, the distance is 29.25 inches. I cannot seem to find strings. Help!!!!!

Hi Brian

To find the scale length of the oud measure from the nut to the point where the string touches the movable bridge. Generally it is between 58.5cm and 61cm on most modern ouds. What tuning are you looking to use on the oud and where are you located?

Also, note that the bridge on a floating bridge oud is often not in the correct location. The distance from the neck/body joint to the bridge should be 2x the distance from the nut to the neck/body joint (i.e., the neck should be 1/3 of the total vibrating string distance). The distance from the bridge to the tailpiece doesn't factor into the equation.
