KURSCHNER VS La Bella String guages

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased two set of Kurschner high tension strings,

set no. p-110.

I'm hoping to tune my oud Armenian style, either
E A B E A D
or
D G A D G C

I know that I can do this with the La Bella strings but I'm a little
worried that these Kurschners might be sized for contemporary Turkish tuning.

Does anyone happen to know the sizes of each of the individual strings so I can compare?

I couldn't find them online unfortunately.

I couldn't find a quick answer either. I'm not sure how their numbering system works for wound strings but on the clear nylon courses the last two digits designates the gauge in millimeters. You might have luck emailing Daniel at ethnicmusical.com, he seems pretty knowledgeable about Kurschner strings.

The Kürschner P-110 set is, if I recall correctly, on the higher end of medium tension. I think the whole range goes from 108 (light) 109 (medium), 110 (medium-high) and 111 (high). They are intended for modern Turkish tuning, but the top four courses should work just fine tuned BEAD. I would absolutely not use the bottom 5th F# and 6th C# and try to tune them up. If you have LaBella OU-80 strings, just use those for the bass strings.

I recently put a set of the new Aquila super nylgut strings (grey packaging) tuned to EABEAD on one of my ouds, and I'm extremely happy with them.
