Bacanos, Bashir ... and the single bass at the bottom

Hi,
I have a question about the so called "Iraki tuning" with the single bass string at the bottom next to the highest pitch pair :

Do the masters using this kind of stringn setup actually played this bass string ? or used it only as a rest for the strokes of the highest pair above ?

Regards

Eric

Hi Eric,
The simple answer is yes : Munir Bashir for example, rearely use the F bass string for playing, but in some improvisation he did. Muhiddin Targan used it a bit more I think in his compositions (I can search a sample for this). For the others oudists, I can't tell.
