any expereince w these 2 ouds? thinking of buying one

I'm curious if anybody has any experience or opinions on these 2 turkish ouds, cost $700 and $1250. I'm a beginner oud player.. my custom made oud from turkey has 2 cracks on soundboard (see prior post) and will need to be shipped to be repaired - nobody local in ohio. The custom made is turkish spruce soundboard with turkish walnut back. in the meantime, I was thinking of buying a second oud, hopefully not too expensive. Do people think these should be decently playable and decent sounding, for a beginner. I would like maple for the warmer sound and like the appearance. Don't want to break the bank, but want to buy something reasonable for my skill level.. I definitely dont want "too cheap" and not playable. thanks, for your opinions.

I don't have direct experience with these ouds but both vendors are reputable. Ethnic musical has better ouds than the one you picked, here is one by luthier Kamil Gul:

https://www.ethnicmusical.com/shop/arabic-oud-wenge-by-kamil-gul/

Sultan plus is a very standard oud used by lots of students around the world. Their products seem to be consistent so a level of quality is guaranteed. Look at the videos posted by Navid Goldrick (oudforguitarists) on this oud.

A third option is to buy from a vendor who can record quality videos of individual instruments that you pick. I recently purchased a good instrument from this shop in Greece:

http://folk-instruments.com/

The owner, Giannis, is a professional musician who recorded custom videos for me on every instrument that I picked. He has some ouds in his shop. If I were to buy a no name oud (like the walnut cedar pro) I would like to see/hear a sound sample from specific ouds rather than trusting the brand/store.

Hope this helps

thanks for the reply.. I could not get the folk-instruments.com link to work.. i tried copy - paste. Yeah.. hoping not to spend $1250 but will if I don't feel comfortable w the cheaper options. I like the look of the sultan rosettes and overall style of the oud.. Looks great but not overdone.

Hello there, out of all the ouds I vote for the sultan oud. I've come across and tried a few and they're overall very good and consistent
Good luck
