"Oud" of the Far East

Thought you all might enjoy this "taqasim" on the Chinese Pipa, relative of the oud. I filmed this at a local concert.

"Taqasim" on the Pipa

I thought the instrument itself is beautiful. Especially the tuning pegs and ivory(?)-carved rose at the peghead.

This man is a professor at the Shenyang Conservatory in China.

I particularly like the parts at :30, 2:04 and 2:50.

What a cool instrument! This is the first time I've actually heard it. Read about it though. The professor was really going, wasn't he? Thanks for the video Jameel.

Take care,
Mike

I think I detected a little Jimi Hendrix thing going on there.

Very cool video. First time I heard a pipa as well.
