using mics for the oud

Hi guys,
Just wanted to generally ask what microphones everyone uses for their ouds. I am performing fairly often these days and I am having trouble getting a good sound (which could be because of my general ignorance of sound engineering). But I thought you guys might have some ideas of some fairly affordable mics that work well for you...thanks everyone! Amos

Hi Amos

Try using the search feature, you should be able to locate a very interesting discussion about pickups which took place not long ago, which I found very helpful (I'm currently trying to deal with much the same issue). You might also want to consider sending a U2U to Mavrothis, who led the charge in terms of providing detailed information.

Take care, Kasos

Microphones preserve the sound more than pick ups or 1/4 jacks built inside the oud. However, the risks of weak mids and trebles and feedback are considerable. I prefer to use a pick up which was inserted under face of the oud and plug in a good 1/4 in cable. A pre-amp is also very useful.
