New Oud Enthusiast

Greetings,
After recently becoming infatuated with the music of North Africa(Rai),
I purchased an electric oud from a maker in Turkey. I have so much to
learn! I don't know any oud players in New York City yet and it has been
a slow process getting started! For instance, the first day I broke a string because I started to tune it backwards: c d g A F C . Also, I twisted one of the pegs too hard and it will have to be replaced(It still works but it will have to be changed). First round of questions: How do I get a new peg? Are they fitted? When replacing strings, do you
"pop" the peg out, wind the string, then re-insert the peg?
Second round of questions: I noticed that the "saddle" and "nut" on my oud
are made of wood. Is this typical or should it be bone or some other material
like they have on guitars?
Thanks for any help with my questions. I have more coming!
