Gut strings

Has anybody used real gut strings (not Nylgut) on their oud? I know of the drawbacks, particularly wearing out/fraying very quickly, but I would like to try them. If anybody has used them, and knows where to purchase them, please let me know.
Thanks

hi Jonathan
i have used lenzner gut strings for the high g .c strings
they sound amazing . you have to get used to the tuch that is diferent fron
nylon . they have amazing over tones and they react much faster because they are less elastic than nylon . the only thing that i found to be as good as gut is savarez plastic wound strings for classical guitar. i dont know where you can get them in the us.

Hi Jonathan,

i've used Aquila gut strings for g and c, wich are excellent. They have anamazing warm sound...the feeling on them is quite different but when you get it you will obtain such a big present sound you can't immagine...

...Playing them you will feel to have something natural below your fingers, it's a beautiful sensation, you can feel the strings became warmer (not in the sound but at the touch!)and you won't never stop playing! and yes they really react faster then nylon and nylgut...

The only bad thing is that they spoil in a short time, but i know Aquila make some varnished gut strings that could make the string more durable, but i still have to test them...
You must try real Gut to belive how magic is to play with!

Thanks, guys. Elias, can you tell me where you purchase them from?
From the website http://www.aquilausa.com? If so, can you tell me what gauges you buy?
Thanks a lot!
Jonathan

Dear Jonathan,
I live in Italy soi purchase them directly from Aquila factory here in italy...but you can order them, through their aquilausa.com....
for the oud sets i play with the standard gauges set or Real silver set wich you can order easely...but you can ask for different gauges...
for the lute string this are the codes:

Nylgut:
gg Nylgut of .80(or.79)
