Oud Database Project

Based on Samir Nassif's idea in the "weigh your oud" thread, I'm going to start a website with a database of different ouds from different makers. If anyone is interested, please make your support known here. I'll get it going with a couple ouds I have, and then we can expand from there. I think it would make a great resource. Tell me what you think.

Hi Jameel,
Just for convenience, will it be possible to start the site within the forums?

Mike,
What do you think?

Happy New Year guys,

Hatem

How about a link to the page? that would be good enough yeah?
Iam going to be helping you has much as I can Jameel. If your going to be taking on this project then it would be nice if anyone that is able to add in something does so. This has great potential to develop into something verry usefull.
Let me know what you need Jameel.

Hi,

Good thinking Samir, this is a great idea. With Jameel's help, I'm hoping to see this develop into a solid online reference. I'll be thinking of ways to assist this effort and I call on everyone to do the same. BTW I'm sure Mike will give his full support.

Happy new year,

-SidiM

Jameel, that sounds cool, and useful. Though I'm only intermittently on here, I'll contribute if I can. I just got a new Ramazan Calay oud this week!

I will post the relevant data of my "Khalifeh" oud in a few days when I get home from Holiday travel... But I am with the Doc that most significant is a light weight soundboard. I almost think that a heavier bowl might be better since it might be less prone to absorbing the vibrational energy, but then maybe a lighter bowl which responds back to the string vibration is what contributes to the oud's tone, after all who wants to listen to a pure tone such as what you get from pushing the dialing buttons of a phone.

I would be curious to see or hear how the material of the bowl and its thickness affects sustain and echo.

Happy New Year to all.
