Is the neck wider than with conventional 6 course ouds?
How many mm wide is it at the nut?
Mourice has done a lovely job on this one.

Excuse my ignorance, but can you tell me how you tune a 7 course oud? Is it used only for one kind of music, e.g. Iraki or Egyptian or...?

7- string tuning
Probably the most common tuning is to simply add the next higher note in the sequence of 4ths - I've really only seen this done for arabic ouds so
(low to high):
C F A d g c f
Iraqi tuning might go something like:
F A c d g c f or even:
A c d g c f F where the bass F is placed next to the high f at the bottom - Munir Bashir used this tuning.
I've been experimenting with :
A E A d g c f where the low A is one octave lower than the normal A (5th string) - this is great for playing with A as the tonic. You can strum
across the bottom 3 strings and get this great big droning 5th sound and if you finger the "C" note on the 5th string "A" you've got the complete
triad. Then you still have 4 more strings for melody.

I'm sorry it is not an accurate figure.
Stretch, My tuning is usually DGAdgcf, and sometimes CFAdgcf.

Are you using lute strings of the pyramid for your seven courses oud?
I want to learn gauge of each course in detail.

String gauges
Pyramid strings low to high:
C - 1441
F - 1029
A - 1020
d - 1012
g - 1006
c - PVF 0.57
f - PVF 0.47
PVF strings some carbon content, smaller diameter for a higher sound but enough volume to balance against the other strings. If I use a lower tuning
for the bass string ( "A" instead of "C") I'll substitute a 1443 or 1445... really only necessary if the string buzzes at that lower tension.

Yes,
I get them from Mathias, though you can probably order them directly from Pyramid. I've had very good service through Mathias. I don't think he
charges any more than Pyrimid does.

Congratulations for your new oud.
In regards to the nut size you mentioned, 36 or 38mm 2mm is a huge difference and very critical specially when it comes to a nut made for a 7 course
oud.
I am puzzled at a 7 course oud with a nut that is not even 35mm.
Could it be possible? Can anybody fit 7 course on a nut under 35mm?

I do not have a micrometer. My nut is about 36.5mm.
Who made your seven courses oud? Maurice Shehata or Fathi Amin?

It is not my own oud but it is made by Mourice Shehata. The oud sound good but the with of the finger board at the nut can not take 7 course. It comes
with 13 pegs and the bridge has got enough holes for 7 course. As you can see the oud has got 6 course on it now and it is what the nut can take. I
think the owner of this oud is gonna have to use it as it is. 6 course only otherwise the fingerboard will be too tight.
My Abdo Dagher 7 course oud is 39.0 mm and the depth of the finger board is 18.mm It fits perfetly well in my hand.
I like your oud. Play it in great health.
