Hello Tarik,
i use and reccomend the Aquila lute strings, they are red copper wound strings, and the tension is similar to Pyramid ones but the sound is really much better for my tastes, they are warmer and nicer in sounding. They gives to the oud a much lutistic sound(typical of each aquila)than the more guitaristic approach of Pyramid..
Here are the codes if you want to order them(i use them both on Nahat and on my Ghadban ouds and the tension is really ok) :
FF Lute String type 175 "D"
AA " " 140 "D"
DD " " 104 "D" (or if you like it a Nylgut RE 1.00)
gg nylgut string 0.79/(or 0.80 if they have)
cc " 0.62
ff " 0.50

ya akhu,

shukran, elias-

I am wondering if the the warm sound is compatable with playing to multiple forms of arabi music (including poly-tonal and bashir-type sensibilities?) what do you think?

Hello Tarik,
of course, you can play what you want with that strings...and don't forget that from high FA to Sol strings you still have the same Nylgut of the other sets...if you already tested them you'll know the sound...and everything is well balanced....don't worry!
