playing the oud

I was watching one of the instructional videos on the website, and I noticed that he doesn't really move his left hand up and down the neck, he just stays in one spot and just moves his fingers, is that how you should play the oud. I'm still learning and right now i move on the neck a lot, any advice or suggestions?

There's really no one set way (in my opinion) on how you should play the oud concerning this topic. If you want to move up and down the neck with your left hand, go for it. If you don't, then don't. Or, mix them both. When you get to the highest pitched string, you inevitably have to go up the neck. It's all a matter of choice. I hope this helped some.

yea i hear you, it helps, now i can keep playing without thinking im doing it wrong or something. I was also thinking that one could play faster if they used their fingers more instead of moving up and down the neck, what do you think? :airguitar:
