New Oud Arrived

As a long time follower of the discussions on this site. I thank everyone for all the great information.

What seams like forever waiting, I finally got my first oud! It was hand carried back from Armenia in a soft case last week. I am told the airline crew was so concerned with its safety that they strapped into an empty first class seat.

The oud was made by Stepan Payaslyan who I am told is an 84 year old builder. According to my brother who purchased it at Stepan's house, had the impression that he is retired or semi-retired from making ouds. Inside the oud, hand written on the label is the year 2006 and the number 161.

Just curious does anyone know of this oud maker?

Thank you

To me it sounds great, but I'm no expert. It is loud compared to my acoustic guitar and enough to drive the members of my family into hiding when I bring it out. It is of relatively unknown quality and rather plain looking. Some of the key things I have learned from this site for a decent oud is how easy it is to tune and whether or not it stays tuned. This oud passes these tests. Also the strings are set nice and low, producing no noticeable string buzz.

That's the easy part, now I just have to learn to play.

My brother carried the oud on an Air France flight about 3 weeks ago. The regulations seam to always be changing, so good luck.
