Hi Mike,

I don't usually like elaborate decorative ornamentation on an oud, but in this case all I can say is WOW, beautifull !

Cheers..PaulO

Meeka, I find only one problem in it. It came after our oud summits.

Mabrouk, man!

Thank you very much everybody. The cedar soundboard and the pickguard style really give it an old school look. The design was inspired by the oud George Michel was playing in the video found on Magdy el-Ashmawy's website. I'll try to make Kan Zaman's rehearsal next week and get a clip of TP or Afif playing the oud.

ALOMARI...yeah...it is made by Maurice.

Thanks again guys,
Mike

As promised, here are a couple of videos of the oud. I was able to get over to Kan Zaman's rehearsal last week and recorded Afif and Peter playing the oud. When I get a chance, I'll get some better pictures of the oud and get them on the My Ouds page soon.

- Taqsim by Peter (TP21)

Great videos Mike. The oud has a very classic sound, which is nice to hear in a new instrument. Just think how good it will sound in a few years! I really like the sound of a cedar top on ouds

Congratulations Mike...beautiful oud. I would be interested in hearing what you have to say about the differences in sound between this cedar-top oud and all the other spruce-top ouds by Maurice that you are familiar with. I know that they are all a little different, but do you notice any particular sound quality from the cedar top that strikes you as unique?

Thanks,
Roy

Congratulations again Mike, this oud sounds amazing! Afif and Peter played beautifully on it too. I really enjoyed the videos.

This oud sounds like you can just play one note and let it hang in the air for a while before you feel you need to move on to the next one.

:)

Enjoy!

Just wait till that oud opens up. It's got a lot of potential, and it even comes through on the video. Thanks for taking the time to post them Mike!

If it wasn't for your love of the oud we wouldn't be gathered here in the first place.
