I am pretty sure the white parts are bone. does that make sense?

I think I can read the maker's name I will go try that and let you know.
Supposedly the oud was made for a famous player. At one point I heard m. qasabgi but then maybe another famous player from the period so I don't know. Would be nice if it were qasabgi since I love his playing and composing.

Beautiful oud, play it in good health. The shams are typically made of bone, it is also common to see ivory on older ouds like this one. How did you find this gem? Did Maurice help you out finding it?

hi, Hosam,
I got this oud several years ago from Najiub Shaheen in New York. Najuib is a great source for ouds.
He is very knowledgeable about old ouds and last time I was at this place he had some beautiful instruments. Najuib is also very talented at repairing old ouds. This oud has taken some loving care over the years; he has been the one do that for me.
He has a web site at: http://www.oudman.com/

Jameel, the label shows the picture of the maker and 1937 in Arabic but most of the rest of the label gone. My understanding is that the maker was a very respected artist.
