A lot of these ouds look like they come from Turkey, not to mention the Saz and Cumbus' :)

I've always wanted one of those cumbuses. As soon as I get some money, I'll get one!

Yeah nice looking little selection there.

I just gave one of my cumbus away, the cumbus saz, to a friend as a gift for some work he helped me out with. Now I miss the instrument, it was small, portable, and great sounding, sounded just like a persian tar. I'll have to order another one.:D

Hi, I know this shop, it's called chitori, it's at the entrance to jaffa (kind of between tel-aviv and jaffa, near the big clock for those who know it). I bought my saz there, it's not bad but I don't play it as much as my oud and guitars. I think most of their ouds are turkish, they also have lots of flutes, drums, sumsumias and other stuff as you can tell. It is probably the most famous ethnic instrument shop in israel, as far as I know.

What is a sumsumia, and how do you play it?

Hi Masel,

Can you inform e-mail address and full name of that music store?

I want to export my quality sazs and ouds there.

Regards.

A semsemia is an Egyptian harp with either 6 or 12 strings.

A friend of mine spent a year volunteering in the south, teaching beduin kids mathematics and english, etc. They gave him two cassette tapes of beduin music, both amazing, though one I heard only once. The other one I spent hours and hours with, it was just a sumsumia, singing, and a lot of clapping. It is really enchanting music, and a big part of why I bought my saz, because it can sound similar. Basically the music was built on droning strings and simple melodies with simple but great strumming.

By the way Beas.one if you know where I can hear some more sumsumia music and more about how to play them please let me know!

Haluk, visit his website, it's http://www.chitori.com/ good luck!

I gave the tape back to my friend, plus I don't have a working cassette player, so I can't upload it sorry. Maybe I can get it when I see him in the week end. Unfortunately I can't find any sounds of it online either.

I have tried countless hours searching for information on how to play the Semsemia with no avail. However, from the picture you can see how to hold the instrument.

I will try to post a sound sample soon Will, so you can hear the instrument.
