Yes a obvious fake and I hope you knew that when you bought it? This model is fancy looking and was very popular in the Gulf States. I have one authentic by Fadel which I attach some photos of and a friend have also one identical but with a bowl made of walnut.

Best wishes

Thanks Ronney

Hi Ronny,

Thanks for your reply. My dad bought it for me when I was like 14 and the store, located in Jordan and owned by syirans, swore it was a real fadel. They sold it to us for about 400 dollars.

I thought it was until I played a real fadel in Jordan. Wow, that was a plain fadel, but damn the sound was out of this world.

Anyway, how did u know it was a fake? This is not easy to determine as with looking at the other much more obvious fakes that come from Syria that u always ese in the market there.

By the way, your oud is amazing looking and it must sound really nice. Do u have any clips?

Hilal

Chris, the best fakes are made in Iraq and I can tell you that some are real good but there are always details and the story from the seller hmmmm
Your own fake was very easy to recognise as a Syrian made one: the soundboard is of very low quality that Fadel never would use, the bowl is also typical Syrian style and also off non Fadel style, also the decorations on your Kuwait model is incomplete compared to my own.
The Fadel ouds have a special sound and I prefer the plain ones with soundboards of cedar!
I will try to arrange a soundfile or a video of my Fadel oud!

Best wishes

Ronny

No since the trade is illegal but an option is to get feathers from a taxidermist and sometimes I have luck.....
The eagle risha is a very different kind of risha and many oudists have great difficulties with the tone production but is worth a try but it is not common to find oudists using eagle risha. The eagle quill can be shaped in various style and I prefer the Iraqi method with a storage in olive oil for about 6 months and this method produces a extremly durable risha that last for years.

Best wishes

Ronny
