women oudistes?
Hi,
Just wondering if there are any female oud players out there..
Any on this forum?
Does anybody have sound clip or video clip of a woman playing?
Or playing and singing?
Is it true that pear-shaped ouds are made for women?

I know we are only two members in the forum who appreciate Kamilya Jubran (Nicola from Italy and me).
Or nobody want to say anything about her.
I find she is a very fine artist.
See that post :

I appreciate Kamilya very much as well - I respect her work. She's one of those artists that's trying to take the oud and middle eastern music to a
completely unique direction. She sings as with Palestinian feelings and voice. She comes from a family of notable Palestinian musicians. And,
she's also really friendly, I talked to her via email once, really nice person.
She was part of a very influencial and pioneering musical group in Palestine called Sabreen http://www.sabreen.org/
Her brother, who was also in Sabreen, is an instructor at the National Conservatory:
http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/2002/618/profile.htm
Her father is a great oud maker:
http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/1999/454/li1.htm My have a couple of friends who own his ouds. Jameel worked on one of his http://www.khalafoud.com/jubran.htm
Need I say more I could, if needed . . .

Thank you Samzayed.
I knew Sabreen, but not the brother and the father.
Very nice oud.
Do you know if she plays with an oud from her father ?
Marina, we are all waiting.
A video is also welcome.

Wow Marina I just checked out your Myspace page, you have some chops on the panflute! That's a hard instrument.
Do you call it "nai" like Romanians do?
And, if you don't mind me asking, how did a Bosnian-Israelian get into that instrument? Any other Bosnians play it?

Haluk, it was sweet what you sad, I concern to buy smaller oud as well. It was the word "chest problem" that make me smile.
Yes, it's nai, and on myspace I don't have oud recording, but it will come soon;-)
In Bosnia there is no pan-flute, I just like it and I started to play it .

I second the Rachel Valfer post. Every time I've seen Eliyahu and Rachel she knocks me out, and there's never enough of her solo playing! I'm sure
John E can attest to that

That clip of outi Xrusa Jovani is ver very nice, simple but beautifully played - I don't know, it's just got something about it.
