Rhythm soundfiles?

At the workshop with Adel Salameh today I realised how difficult it is for me to improvise to set rhythms. It would be great if there was an Internet resource of all the main Arabic and Turkish rhythms in loops. Is there one already, or can we set one up here?

This a basic collection of the most common arabic rythms in midi format to start with, I will try to fix a better and more complete collection with sampled real instruments

Can I slow them down in Windows Media Player? I really appreciate these files, but could do with slower versions for practising with.

No you can't slow down in WMP.
But you can use Audacity that you can download here as freeware.

Actually, Robert, I've just discovered that I CAN slow down files in WMP. There is a little inverted triangle at the top right hand corner, next to the maximise/minimise buttons. Click the triangle, then choose View...Enhancements...Play Speed Settings

Well, I don't have that option in my version.
But I am at the office and the operating system is win2000, than it's not WMP10.
I'll see at home tonight, I have XP.
Does WMP allow you to change the tempo WITHOUT changing the pitch ?
Audacity do.
And as it is a sound editor (light) it allows you to cut precisely a rhythm pattern for playing in a loop.
I do that often using part of songs when the rhythm is played without instruments.
Here is a quick example with a Samai Lami played by Yair Dalal.
It begins with a taqseem, then the rhythmic introduction, then the melody.
Here is the bridge with the end of the taqseem, the rhythmic intro and the begin of the melody.

This is a great program that lets you compose your own rhythms or alter preset ones. You can add various percussion instruments and get some great sounds going. (and it's free!)

The above posted rythms were produced using Wizoo - Darbuka I got from a friend who did them for me in many tempos and different degrees of complexity and 5 minutes each (which makes an impossible to post 1GB), the full quality is really nice

and unlike Percussion Studio it is a 300 $ plugin (I am not sure if there is a standalone version) which a lot for just practice.
