I wasn't going to post anything on this one, but I really like an oud that I just got (yesterday) from Turunz. Incredibly well made, and the sound is
great--rich and full, and the trebles just ring out forever.
It took a bit longer to get than I anticipated, but it was well worth the wait.
The oud seems to be just a bit narrower than a lot of Turkish ouds--mine is 13 3/4 inch at the greatest width. It's a small difference, but it makes
the oud even more comfortable to play.

I can't figure out how to post a sound file. I know I did it before using itunes, but now I have forgotten what I did (If anybody knows, clue me in).
I will try to get something up when I figure it out.

Thanks. I got the grand concert oud--he had a big sale on them last summer, although I don't know if those prices are still on.
Still, the guy makes a great oud.

Nice Jonathan. It does look narrower. I like the shape very much. Cant wait to hear it.
Faruk is using a two-part polyurethane varnish lately. This looks like it might be it. Very silky to touch. He rubs it out and buffs it. Very classy.

Congratulations Jonathan. I think it is fair to say that Faruk Türünz workmanship and finish is second to none.
I hope you will be as happy with yours as I am with mine.
Mine is 14 1/4 inch at the greatest width, but it was designed for Arabic tuning and sound, so that may account for the difference in width.

Thanks, Greg. It's nothing much--I just used the mic on my laptop. A little hissy, and the oud is just one day old (for me, at least). I wish I
could play with a bit more skill, but at least you can hear the tone of the oud. Nihavent taksim--even I was getting bored with the last section, so
I turned it into a Turkish folk song in 9/8.

Sam, I have kept my Turunz oud in Turkish tuning. With the right strings it should sound great in Arabic tuning as well.

I got mine tuned for arabic tuning, and with a bigger bowl. 37.5 cm is the widest spot. I know that's a littler wider, but its the same as my
Ghadban. I tend to like big ouds since I have long monkey arms  )
I also got a longer scale, 60 cm, and my bowl is macassar ebony and amazon rosewood. I'm hoping for a deep, rich sound

Wow, that's a nice sounding oud, congrats again.
The first thing I noticed about Mr. Turunz's ouds is the way they play - the action, the quick response, and the ease of play. It was so easy to do
articulations like hammer-on, sliding, etc. I felt that the oud played itself in some ways. Do the Turunz owners here the same experiences?

Yes. My Faruk Usta's Oud has similar characteristics in playability but a different sound-colour (deep warm sound.Not so brilliant high)
By the way Congratulations Jonathan for your new oud.Its a beauty.
