The professor pays me a visit with his new shehata
Just want to share some pictures of a visit I had by the member here: The Professor
He has just received his brand new 7 course floating brige shehata oud. Made of walnut and mohagony with a cedar face.
I had a chance to try it out and it is a very nice instrument.
Here is the first pic next to my Shehata which is about 2 years old.
you can see the difference in size... he asked for his oud to be built using the biggest jig possible.

They both look like lovely instruments! What is the difference in sound (and otherwise) between a fixed and floating bridge oud?

This is a link of me trying it out... The sound is louder and more clear then a fixed brige oud. The scale lenght is shorter.

nice i am glad u had a good time both of the ouds look great,
btw is it true that the bashir style oud makes sharper notes but does not keep the soudn for a while , like i know the fixed bridge like the bass
stays for a few sec does that also happan with the ba<b>shoot</b> style
btw yr oud playing get very very good and i can see your tecnek is alot better and more controlled

novice like me some hope hehe
I think that's the first bashir style oud I've heard from shehata, it sounds really nice. How short is the scale length? I love those inlays on the
fingerboard

Jay... your no novice! you play realy nice. And actualy its about time you record something new for us to listen to.
This oud is really awsome... Having the 7 courses is truly a beautiful thing
the scale lenght is 61.5 cm... the body is made oversized using a wider jig.
Still you could have it made in 58cm I beleive.

Wow....you never realize how great your instrument can be until you have a guy like Samir grab it and show you how it's done.....
For now ill just stick to my plink plink plink lol...
Thank you Samir and Mike for assisting me in aquiring this beautiful instrument that I will love and take care off for as long as I am alive.
With an instrument like this, who would not want to learn????

That's a nice instrument man congrats!
May i know the dimensions of your Oud? It looks a bit wider than regular non floating bridge to me!
