8 course oud
First time I see a Turkish 8 course oud,

Nice video. Love the white coats. Is this a workshop or a laboratory?  I'm
jealous of such a tidy shop!!
Man, those two guys are flying! I'm guessing they can't make a bowl in probably a couple hours or so.

The tuning is listed on the page linked above. From lowest to highest it's:
C# F# B e a d'd' g'g' c''c''
Nice looking instruments. I think the string space on the 8 course ud is a little tight though, down where you would be picking.

Gee that eight course oud looks like a weapon!
But I must say these are probably the most beautiful turkish ouds I've seen...I especially admire the proportionate pick guard design, something rare
in turkish ouds these days.

And I like the idea of feeding fine tubes through the strings in the pegbox area to avoid string overlaps and conflicts...very neat

has a wider finger board to accomodate the extra strings. hope they put up a video on youtube so we can hear what it sounds like.

In some languages is workshop called for laboratory like in Italian (laboratorio) but why white coats? Neat anyhow and impressive team work by the
synchronized brothers!

I find the string spacing on this 8 course oud to be on the narrow side just as mavrothis said and check out the 8 course by Fawzy Monshed with wider
spacing and also floating bridge. It has been some turbulence about who the inventor of the 8 course if it is Magdy El Ashmawy or Naseer Shamma. I
heard that the first 8 course oud built for Shamma was built by an Egyptian violin maker when Shamma still was in Tunis. Later he went to Fawzy
Monshed but their friendship lasted only for a short time and they never realised a 8 course oud.
Just imagine what some extra strings can cause

The Fawzy oud has a very nice pegbox - it looks like calligraphy - very smart. Nice string spacing too - I think I've played one or two of his ouds,
both excellent.

The second looks like it has an all tortoise shell fingerboard, though it might be the macassar ebony. Don't know if they are both from the same
maker, but I'm impressed with the sound, along with his playing for sure.

I wonder what kind of tortoise shell source the oud makers have since tortoise have an international ban-is illegal just as eagle rishas  . Check out this lute by a maker in Australia very neat and cost a lot,

Tortoise is beautiful for pick guard,fingerboard or for any inlay.

some luthiers have in stock or very old pieces of I vory with license,or they can find absolutelly leagal.
As for the skin of turtle it's the same
In Turkey and not only they sell them on the shops too.....
In Australia there are farms of crocodiles for theyr skin
Or several types of snakes.......
Some people are against of it,and some people like the matterials on the decoration......
Ofcourse we are against of ilegal killing of the elephants ,but you know that on some parks are and some animas that die for age or sickness reasons,I
also have seen that in some national parks .they kill some animals when the are overpopulated,for the balance of the animal population.
It is sad maybe,but there are many legal ways to get.
Not all the elephants are in extintion.

Ive seen these videos a week ago and i loved his ouds' sound and his playing very much too Mav.And i have the same questions as you..who is the
maker.In another video he plays one very nice sounding Mustafa Copcuoglu oud too.Check it out...

Unfortunately, even if you buy legal sources of these materials you are contributing to illegal poaching by sustaining the demand for the 'products'.

Ronny - you're familiar with Ian's work?? He's here in Melbourne and he recently converted a cheap Khalifeh oud into a decent floating bridge bashir
style oud for me. Not very bashir sound as the string lenght is 61.5, but amazing result and work nevertheless. I've been wanting to post pics on
here for ages but I never get the time.....But I'll get around to it soon

Well not more than I have seen two of his lutes and both were of outstanding workmanship and very good sounding. If I could afford (my wife) I should buy the lute with tortoise ad ivory and us it as a wall decoration  Please try to sort out your stuff and post the pictures

Mutlu Torun is an oudplayer that I always have admired and I am very found in the sound that his ouds use to have and I wonder if he use to have the

Mutlu Torun owns many great uds I'm sure, but I'm also pretty sure that in his collection are two Manol uds owned by Udi Yorgos Bacanos. Not bad
right?
He's a great player, and his method is the best I know of for the Turkish style ud.
I wonder if my bank will give me an "oud loan" so I can get all the instruments I want...probably not a good idea...
