Yeah oudipoet, you're absolutely right. :) Though fortunately ouds don't take up that much room...

Thanks for the info Mavrothis! don't you find Mutluns oud also very mellow and ¨bas¨ sounding and with a very distinct clear lower register? Do you know if this is a typical feature for Manol?

Best wishes

Hey,

I don't know if the oud he is playing in the video is a Manol, I don't think so, but I think generally the older Turkish style ouds have this sound, you know? Every Venios oud I've played has that great character, but it is very specific also - darker than most ouds I've played.

Torun's specific tone might also be attributed to his pick and his picking style too. You know how some players always sound like themselves, regardless of what oud they are playing? Ara Dinkjian is a good example of that, though he almost exclusively plays rather old ouds.

Indeed true;) I am going to see Tasos Theodorakis later this summer and then hopefully be able to checkout his own work and his impressive oud collection with some Manols

Best wishes

Cool, I'll be visiting Taso from July 24-27. Picking up my oud and hopefully playing some instruments in his collection.

Maybe I'll see you there.

Take care,

I never had the chance to see the old collection in Tasos' shop.He doesnt keep the ouds there as the shop is too small..but if you tell him before i think it wouldnt be a problem to bring some manols for a test drive :D

See you in Thessaloniki Mav :)

Nikos

P.s. By the way...i think i will bring my old Kuchukian to Thodorakis for the restoration..
