Finding Ouds from far off places. Looking for sources for Tokyo.

We produce ethnic music events in Tokyo (mostly not-for-profit events) and often we get a lot of questions and email asking about the ethnic instruments that are featured. So we've become good at pointing people to Persian Santoor, Chinese Lutes, Japanese instruments and even Darabuka . But after a couple shows featuring Oud players, I've now had several emails asking where a good value can be found on an Oud.

Considering the insane prices for even very basic models here, (usually instruments more suited to hanging on the wall than playing) it seems that ordering from abroad is the only option.

So here are my questions.

1. Is there a reliable vendor who makes a great Oud that a new player could hope to play for several years at a reasonable starting price? Good quality, good pricing and reliability.

2. Language is a big barrier for Japan and Japanese musicians. Since this must be the case elsewhere too, are there vendors who sometimes work with local contacts to help provide instruments in countries without good resources or shops and mostly non-English speakers?

3. How did you get your Oud? What resources did you use to find a good maker? Please tell us your story.

We've happily found some instruments for friends and people who've been out to events here. Mostly by asking the same questions online. Hoping to do the same for Oud. Anything we can do to help encourage more and more ethnic music maniacs in Tokyo. :)

Thanks in advance for your insight.
