Help

Hello, I´m an oud player from Estonia. I want to buy myself my first instrument (as i have been borrowing one for 2 years now), but don´t have much experience in that field. I am mostly interested in an Egyptian type of oud.
So it would be very helpful if you all could give me some advice, where is the best place to order the Egyptian oud. As I´m not a professional musician and a beginnner as well, the instrument does not have to be "world class" and cost a fortune. I found the instruments from Dimitris Rapakousis and Al - Aseel very interesting, so if anybody can comment about them, it would also help a lot.

Hi JP- I have an oud by Al -Aseel, Maurice Shehata; they are well made and many other Shehata owners in this forum will tell you the same. Also depends on your budget and how much you want to spend. Also, if you come across an oud that you like but are not sure about, post it in the forum for feedback, someone somewhere will surely know something about it. Also check the 'buy and sell ouds' section of this website.
Here is some information recently posted by Greg which you may find useful:

As passionate oud players, we all have our favourite makers, so the question,"Who should I buy from?" will always attract varying opinions.

Spend a little time searching these forums, looking at pictures and reading what others have written.

You may also wish to visit the websites of some of the makers.
Here are some links to some of the more well known maker's websites, in alphabetical order.

I would agree with Greg, spend a bit of time searching through these oud websites and also MikesOuds forum, there is a wealth of useful information on just what you are interested in in this forum, especially on what ouds others are playing and their comments. Good luck-:)
