Yes should be nice in a bottle of "harissa" hahahah. In fact is a true and " A remarkable collection of music: essentially 'the best of' somebody's
collection of 78 RPM records. This somebody being Robert Crumb which may tell you something about the artwork.
Old music, mostly from around 1930, and from everywhere, Australia being the only continent not featured on this album. It leads to a very diverse and
intriguing serie of songs, the only aspect they've in common is the main vocal being female (in many different languages).
Music sound is excellent thanks to remastering and restoration of original 78 RPM records, linernotes are supplied whenever possible."

Well, I don´t know... The cover looks like typical Robert Crumb art, and knowing that, I find it just fun. I´m sure some North American with limited
sense of humor would find Crumb´s way of presenting North Americans highly offensive, as well.

Excentrik, it does look like a Crumb drawing, and he was never known to be politically correct or polite about anything he drew. On the other hand he
was a huge country blues fan (as am I) and he drew lots of covers for old blues records (or remakes), they could all seem racist but I think it's just
his unique style. Personally I think he's the best cartoonist ever.

Crumb makes fun of political incorrectness. Is "The Simpsons" any different? Crumb is just way way more dark.
The documentary about Crumb by Terry Zwigoff is excellent.
I'm very curious to hear what he chose for the CD compilation, really cool.

I own this album, and like it very much.
My favorite tracks from it are:
Arostisa Manoula Mou (Roza Eskanazi, sung by Maria Vasileiathou)
Lu Fistinu Di Palermo (Rosina Trubia Gioiosa)
There is at least one oud track on there, which sounds very folk-y, (as opposed to classical-art music) and I really appreciate that 'coz it made me
realize that back in the day not everybody played with classicaly-trained chops.
Tarik, sorry to hear you are offended.. perhaps if you research R. Crumb you will change your mind.. he is a living legend in the Graphic Arts, and
apparently a fine music appreciator as well!

Wow that's a really good compilation, I especially liked the middle eastern tracks but the cajun and mexican songs are really good, though every song
on there is very nice.
I started browsing and the guy who does that blog has lots of cool albums you can download, especially 60s soul, but a few other stuff as well.

maybe you guys are missing the point.
I am Arab. I am from a "torrid" region. I am not a "hot and exotic" man. I am simply a human. the women in our respective, indigenous communities
(whichever they may belong to) would also take offense to the constant barrage of mis-characterization and objectification of our peoples and cultures
that are, unfortunately, shown to continue; despite the attempts of such great decolonization theorists as Edward Said, Franz Fanon, etc.
What a shame. I am not offended by Crumb's artwork. I am offended by the rest of the B.S. (i.e. hot and exotic, and all that other sh*t) that
reinforces the typical orientalist garbage MY people have endured for too long (and to think...some of US are actually guilty of perpetuating it
too... whats with this world?).
to hell with any record label that perpetuates negative, false imagery of indigenous peoples- no matter what "brilliant" graphic artist they use to
sell it. WE are sick of it. period.

how about the misconceptions, cultural stereotypes, etc. of westerns that get promoted in the "orientalist" culture(s)?
