the singer usually is Yasemi Saragouda

This is a great song and video, and Katerina is absolutely wonderful.

If you check out all the videos posted by the same person, you will get a great taste of Greek music like this, also more Rebetika style songs.

If you are looking for albums to buy with this kind of music, I'd be happy to list a whole bunch of them, especially the ones with original recordings.

Check out these names of singers/musicians from the old days:

Antonis Ntalgkas (Andonis Dalgas) or Diamantidis
Roza Eskenazi
Rita Ampatzi (Abadzi)
Agapios Tompoulis
Lampros Leontaridis

That's just a small taste, but a good one. Check these sites out:

http://www.greekmusic.com
http://www.studio52.gr

The second one especially has a huge selection, but it's located in Greece and may have a higher shipping fee. I just ordered some CD's from them with my favorite contemporary singer, Xanthippi Karathanasi.

Search for "Smyrneika" "Asia Minor" etc for this type of genre.

Let me know if you need more help locating this kind of music. :)

Take care,

mavrothis

ps - linked is Roza Eskenazi singing the same song from the video, original version, with Agapios Tompoulis playing ud...

This is classic stuff, with the low fi sound of YouTube, it really reminds me of listening to the 78's of Rosa Eskenazi...follow that up with the original Rosa track with Udi Agapios Tompoulis -- I'd only seen pics of him -- beautifull player, and one great sounding oud too ! Thanks Mav, thanks rebostar.

Cheers..Paul

Roza Eskenazi, what a chaffinch!!!!
Greek writing looks very artistic and harmonious...I love it and and more the linear B, its ancestor!
but is here someone to reveal in Latin characters what is hiding behind it, and the meaning of this mysterious and melancholics song?[tha spaso koupes]
