My Faruk Shehata Oud

Hi guys. I'm sure you loved seeing Mike's Faruk Shehata oud, which he got from Adel Salameh. It's truly a classic oud, with a very unique look and sound.

Mike asked me to share some pictures of my Faruk, which also has a cedar top, but is a little larger in size than Mike's and has some different decorations. The ribs are made of walnut, and I believe the fingerboard is rosewood/pallisander. It was made in 1993.

Also...this oud was dropped and damaged by Cairo airport security (:(), but my friend Quince at Violin Makers Ltd. here in Camp Hill, PA, made it impossible to tell it was ever broken. Thanks so much!!!

>which also has a cedar top,

Is this really Lebanon cedar? I've seen couple of Egyptian made ouds with identical wood.

Best wishes

Thanks again to Adel and Naziha for graciously taking time out of their vacation to help me find and choose this oud.

I really appreciate it very much.

As for the soundboard, I don't know what type of cedar it is.

Hi. Yeah, the sound is very very good, but really you need to take time and try some out to know which one is for you. None of them sound alike.

The best thing is to be there, but if you really want one maybe we can talk to some people and see what we can do.

Send me an email if you like, maybe Mr. Yehia can help you.

Take care,

mav
