To restore or not restore....

Hey,
I have a 1962 Ali Khalifa that my mother brought back from Damascus many years ago and needless to say it is not in the most prestine condition. Do I go to the trouble to have someone fix it up or should I just leave it alone? It is a sturdy oud, but the rosettes are plastic. I'm not sure about tone since most of the strings are decaying (the instrument was decor before I started to learn how to play, so I'm trying to make up for the mistreatment!!! I'll try and post some pics of the oud with it's blemishes and damage. Any info is greatly appreciated. -----Laith

Hey Laith,
My guess is that the files are too big, depending on the settings you have for your camera. Try reducing the size ofthe picture and then attaching it.

Looks to me like it would probably be worth restoring, depending on how much it would cost. Where are you located? Someone on the board may know a good person to take it to near you.

I live in Tennessee US. Not a whole lot of people who even know what an oud is. Price is somewhat of an option, but I think it might be worth it if the restorer thinks so. Due to its age, it might really be a great oud....Thanks for replying Brian
